Massachusetts Visitor Industry Council (MVIC)

Focus: General advocacy and political messaging
Since January 2010, Hunter Higgs has worked with the Massachusetts Visitor Industry Council (MVIC), a non-profit organization designed to foster economic growth in Massachusetts’ communities through tourism and tourism promotion. Hunter Higgs has organized a grass roots advocacy campaign in support of the Massachusetts Regional Tourism Councils (RTCs) and general state funding for tourism. By developing a tightly coordinated written and verbal message, Hunter Higgs has unified and focused the RTCs, trained board members, and facilitated meetings with elected officials. Hunter Higgs is helping MVIC to increase its annual funding by articulating its value and demonstrating that tourism generates revenue, supports jobs across the Commonwealth, and is critical to Massachusetts’ economic recovery. With assistance from Hunter Higgs, MVIC scored two major victories: a dedicated revenue stream in the expanded gaming bill, and one of the only increases in the House FY11 budget.
